EnOcean Technology Integrates Seamlessly, LEEDing the Way to Sustainability

EnOcean-based wireless controls have renovated the building automation industry providing unmatched sustainability and flexibility options

[November 30, 2009 – Boston, MA] Sustainability and flexibility in buildings are becoming a rising priority and with over 100,000 building automation applications already in place, EnOcean technology is LEEDing the way in building automation systems (BAS). The goal behind building automation is to automate energy consuming functions – such as lighting control or HVAC – with innovative technologies and sustainable solutions that monitor and keep energy consumption to a minimum. The user benefits from increased comfort and convenience while the operator or owner of the building experiences huge savings on energy costs. Automated buildings can also become eligible to receive tax benefits for increased sustainability. Sustainable buildings can be made measurable by the award of a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificate from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Leggat McCall Goes Platinum

An EnOcean-specific example can be taken from the Leggat McCall building located in Boston, MA, a LEED Platinum certified building featuring an EnOcean-integrated BAS. This building features an occupancy based lighting-control system which is fully integrated with occupancy sensors, wireless light switches and a low-voltage room controller tying the system together seamlessly. When someone enters a room, occupancy sensors recognize the individual and automatically turn the lights on/off accordingly. This can be overridden with the installed wireless switches when needed. This simple installation has lowered energy consumption considerably and saved 30% during installation alone by reducing labor hours and the need for new wiring to be put in place. More information about the Leggat McCall installation a case study can be provided upon request.

About EnOcean

No Batteries. No Wires. No Limits. EnOcean (www.enocean.com), the inventor of energy harvesting wireless sensor networks, manufactures self-powered radio modules and energy harvesters that enable OEMs to develop wireless sensors & switches for new and retrofit BAS (Building Automation Systems). The batteryless radio modules convert ambient solar, thermal and motion energy into useable electrical energy that powers building network communications. These peel-n-stick devices reduce the time, cost and occupant disruption of energy conservation retrofits, and provide unparalleled flexibility in new construction. The company is a spin-off of Siemens AG and U.S. operations are based in Boston, MA.
